Rehabilitation Programmes & Classes at NTFGH
Diabetes Exercise Programme
This programme aims to improve blood glucose control through increasing physical activity participation, in patients who are newly diagnosed with diabetes or have been living with the condition for many years. Patients will be guided in monitoring blood glucose responses as they perform clinically recommended exercises. Through this group-based exercise programme, they will also receive psychosocial support as they meet people who share similar experiences while living with diabetes.
Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme
This programme aims to optimise fitness and modifiable cardiovascular risk factors such as increasing physical activity participation in patients who have suffered a heart attack. This structured exercise programme involves close supervision by our Physiotherapists to ensure safety and restore confidence during exercise. Patients who have been diagnosed with heart failure may also be placed under electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring while exercising.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme
This programme aims to help patients with a range of respiratory conditions to improve activity tolerance and strength through exercising. Patients will be guided with strategies to pace themselves and techniques to improve breathing patterns and aid with sputum clearance. In this group-based programme, patients would also receive psychosocial support through the interaction with people who have similar experiences with their condition.
Osteoporosis Exercise Class Programme
This group-based exercise programme is a primary prevention programme for older adults in the community with low to very low bone mineral density. Patients will be supervised while they participate in clinically recommended exercises to maintain bone density and improve muscle strength. Patients would receive peer support as they learn along side people living with the same condition.
Outpatient Services at JCH
Located at Level 1 of Jurong Comunity Hospital, Outpatient Physiotherapy aims to provide care for patients who have experienced a decline in function as a result of injury, illness or after a prolonged stay in the hospital. The rehabilitation team provides a range of goal-specific individual and group therapy programmes to improve the quality of life for our patients.
A dedicated outpatient therapy gym with a comprehensive range of equipment and an outdoor Mobility Park will support patients on their rehabilitation journey and integration back into the community under the care of experienced therapists. The outdoor Mobility Park features a variety of ramps, steps, textured surfaces, a foot reflexology path, etc. It will simulate a public transport setting with an actual bus, taxi and MRT carriage.
