Our Laboratory provides an extensive range of services and tests to support doctors and other healthcare providers by providing timely and accurate test results of clinical specimens. It provides consultative services to assist clinicians in both diagnostic and research capabilities.
Our department monitors the three laboratory phases of analysis: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical. We strive for excellence by continuously learning, improving and advancing our methodologies and technologies. Thus, we keep ourselves up to date with the latest developments in the healthcare industry. We make a distinctive contribution to our patients' health by supporting and synergising with our clinical colleagues to provide the best quality care to our patients.
Quality of laboratory results are maintained through evaluation of quality control, accuracy and precision standards. Delivery of our laboratory data is fully integrated with the hospital's Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, and the Healthcare Messaging System (HMS) is platform used to manage the notification of critical and clinically significant results.
Diagnostic testing for community health screening programmes is also supported by our laboratory.
Our laboratory consists of the following sections:
The Anatomic Pathology section provides testing services for histological and cytological investigations. Cytology comprises gynaecological and non-gynaecological processing, with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) service is provided at multiple locations. Histology involves routine processing of specimens for microscopic examination. We also process frozen sections or fresh samples obtained from on-going surgeries.
Clinical Chemistry section comprises Point-of-Care (POC) support and round-the-clock testing services for chemistry, immunology and urinalysis tests. Chemistry and immunological tests are run on the Laboratory Automation System (LAS), where samples are routed automatically through the centrifugation, aliquoting, testing and archival phases. POC services offer tests at the bedside. Their test menu includes blood gases, electrolytes and haemoglobin, glucose, PT/INR, glycated haemoglobin, creatinine, urine dipstick and urine pregnancy test.
Haematology section provides 24/7 testing services for blood transfusion, routine Haematology and coagulation studies, as well as Body Fluid Cell Count to clinicians for the diagnosis, management and prevention of haematological disorders. We are fully equipped with automated analyser systems for blood typing and antibody screening, routine FBC tests, coagulation and morphological studies.
The Microbiology section provides bacteriological, mycology, parasitology and molecular investigation services. We routinely receive specimens submitted for bacteria culture and sensitivity testing, microscopic examination, active surveillance, serological testing as well as molecular testing for infectious diseases. Sample processing, microorganism identification and susceptibility testing processes are partly managed on automated platforms.
Specimen reception and client services fronts the communication between our internal and external clients and the various laboratory sections. All specimens are routed through here to the various sections for testing. In addition, we provide assistance on queries and is also the main point of contact for liaisons with external laboratories. We constantly review testing services with our referral laboratories.
