Biosketch

Dr Nazrul Nashi is a Consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH) and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), both part of the National University Health System (NUHS).

Dr Nazrul earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). During his training, he achieved membership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd) and was awarded the NUS Master of Medicine (MMed) degree in Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his specialist training and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (FRCSEd Orth). Currently, he practices as a Trauma, Reconstruction and Joint Replacement surgeon.

Dr Nazrul’s surgical expertise spans the full spectrum of Musculoskeletal Trauma, providing comprehensive care for patients with multiple injuries, and also those presenting with fragility fractures. His primary interests include managing complex peri-articular, pelvic and acetabulum fractures, peri-prosthetic infections and addressing post-traumatic deformity and limb length discrepancy. He also specializes in complex hip and knee replacement surgeries, particularly for patients with post-traumatic osteoarthritis. 

To ensure optimal patient care, Dr Nazrul regularly participates in local and international workshops and seminars to stay updated on the latest advancements and surgical techniques in Trauma and Hip and Knee surgery. He has been invited to overseas hospitals for observerships, and was awarded the AO Trauma Fellowship to Montreal General Hospital, Canada. 

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Nazrul is dedicated to medical education and academic training. He is an alumnus of the NUHS Medical Education Track, where he mentors Residents to be effective teachers. He is also actively involved in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery research, with numerous scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Nazrul frequently presents at local and international conferences and scientific meetings. 

Dr Nazrul is also passionate about healthcare administration. He has led Quality Improvement Programs with departments across the NUHS cluster, and was a part of the institution’s prestigious Residency Leadership Development Program. He currently serves as a clinical lead for the upcoming Tengah General and Community Hospital. He is also the institutional lead for the Singapore Orthopaedic 3D Printing workgroup, promoting the use of 3D printing and augmented reality within the department.
